1. Game objective

The objective of the game is not to allow the enemies to reach the gates of the city. They move from top of the screen to the bottom, and when they reach the city wall, they will destroy it. When twenty enemies hit the wall, the wall is ruined and the city is defeated.

The player can build towers in front of the city wall. These towers attack and destroy enemies so that they won't get to the town.
Towers can be built anywhere on the game map, but in such a way, that there is always a free path from the top to the bottom for enemies, because ground enemies can't go through where the towers are built.
To build a tower costs money which is earned by killing enemies. Towers attack enemies automatically when they reach their attack range. The player has no means to affect destroying the enemies other then by building or upgrading the towers.
Every level (or enemy wave) has its own limited time. When this time is up, next wave of enemies will arrive.

2. Game types

Resco Defender offers four game types - Easy, Medium, Hard and Endless. These types differ in difficulty - Easy is the easiest, the enemies have the least health and the rewards (money earned for killing an enemy) are higher. Medium, Hard and Endless are more difficult types, enemies are stronger and the player gets less money.
The first three game types offer 99 levels. When player kills the last enemy of the last level, the game ends. Endless game type offers endless play - the amount of levels is not limited.

3. Game interface

3.1 In Game

The game interface consists of the top and bottom panels.

The top panel shows information about the current game. It shows information about the type of enemy which will come in the next level (enemy which comes next), current level number, time remaining until next level, money (which can be used to build towers), score and lives. When lives decrease to zero, the game is over.

Bottom panel offers three buttons - Main menu, Pause/Play and Next level.
When Main menu is pressed, the current game is saved (so it can be loaded from menu - play - load - and by selecting corresponding game type). Then the main menu is displayed. The player can return to the current game by selecting continue. The Pause/Play button pauses/unpauses the game. When the game is paused, enemies and shots stop moving. The player is allowed to build towers. This can be used, when enemies are moving too fast and the player needs to build or upgrade towers. Next level button can be used to add more enemies on the game field. When the next level button is pressed, time remaining for the next level is added to the score and enemies from the next level start to appear on the map. When there are enemies from five levels on the map, the Next level button fades to gray and no more enemies can be added to the map, before all enemies from some of the levels on screen are destroyed.

3.2 Building towers

The Build tower menu is displayed when tapped anywhere on a free game field on the game map, or by selecting free game field with keys and pressing the action button. It is also displayed when tapped (or selected by keys) on Site (more on tower types in section 4.).

When the Build menu is displayed, the player can select one of ten types of towers to build (more on tower types in section 4.). Towers which cost more than money which the player has avilable are faded gray and can't be build. When a red mark is over every tower, building towers is blocked by the enemy, or building a tower on this spot would block free access from top to bottom.

The Build menu consist of tower name, under which there are ten icons of towers you can build. Each tower has information displayed about its damage, range, firing speed, cost and type. Damage is the amount of damage points done to the enemy, which decrease the health of the enemy when it is hit. Range corresponds to the attack range. When the enemy enters the tower's attack range, firing is initiated. Firing speed corresponds to time, which a tower needs to wait until it can fire again. Cost represents the amount of money needed to build a tower. Tower type represents which type of enemies can this tower attack. There are two types of enemies : air based (flying) and ground based. Most towers attack both air and ground based enemies, but some can only attack air based enemies or only ground based enemies. These towers are on the other hand more effective at destroying enemies of specific types.

The build menu can be hidden by taping on the small cross in the bottom left hand corner.

3.3 Upgrading towers

The Upgrade tower menu is displayed when tapped on an existing tower, or by selecting a tower by keys and pressing the action button.

When this menu is displayed, a white circle representing the attack range of a tower is displayed and the player can select one of the available upgrades for this tower. When the player doesn't have enough money for an upgrade, it is faded gray. When the player has already upgraded the tower to this level, this upgrade is no longer available which is displayed by the checked upgrade icon.

The Upgrade menu consits of the tower name and three icons representing the original tower, first and second upgrade. When moving between these icons, the information in the upgrade menu shows how will damage, range, rate and cost be affected when upgrading to the selected level.

The Upgrade menu also shows by how much the tower is boosted, when nearby a boost tower (more on tower types in section 4.).

4. Tower types

4.1 Site

Site is in fact not a tower. It is a spot, where other towers can (but do not have to) be built. It can be used to the advantage of the player that enemies can't step on the Site. The price of the Site is deducted from the price of the tower built, thus being cheaper than if the tower was built on a free spot.

4.2 Basic Tower

Basic Tower is a basic tower type. It can be upgraded to a more effective tower. Attacks air and ground.

4.3 Advanced Tower

Advanced Tower has better properties (damage, rate, range) than the basic tower. Attacks air and ground.

4.4 Rocket Tower

Rocket Tower fires special rockets, which hit not only their target, but also enemies in a small range around the target. These enemies are hit with only half the damage. Rockets have patrol mode, so when their target is destroyed, they start patroling, seek out and destroy the enemy. Rocket Tower attacks air and ground.

4.5 Freeze Tower

Freeze Tower doesn't do any damage to the enemies, but decreases their speed. Enemies hit by the Freeze Tower are slowed down for a certain period of time. When hit again the slow down time is suspended. Freeze tower attacks air and ground.

4.6 Glue Tower

Glue Tower is very similar to the freeze tower, but enemies hit by the Glue tower are stopped (they stop moving) for a certain period of time. Glue Tower attack only ground enemies.

4.7 Teleport Tower

Teleport Tower teleports enemies a few steps back to their starting point, so they can be e.g. hit by some attack towers again. It is a very useful tower to have. Attacks air and ground.

4.8 Magic Tower

Magic Tower is a very effective tower against air based enemies. It attacks air based enemies only.

4.9 Black Magic Tower

When Black Magic Tower fires, it attacks all enemies in its attack range at the same time (with one hit). This very effective tower attacks ground enemies only.

4.10 Boost Tower

This special tower boosts the damage and range of towers that are in direct viscinity (close by) of this tower. The more upgraded this tower is, the more it boosts nearby towers. One tower can be boosted by more than one boost tower.
